Keypad navigation is required for phones without a touchscreen. Each widget has two focus modes: Navigation and Editing. Navigation focus allows the directional keys to change focus from widget to widget. Pressing the Select key on the currently focused widget enters edit focus. The directional keys can then be used to edit the focused widget, for example moving the cursor in a text editor. Pressing Select again ends edit focus and returns to navigation mode. The user interface style ensures that the widgets are easily distinguished when unfocused, focused, and editing.

The Simplicity virtual navigation bar allows rapid navigation throughout Qt Extended Home. It achieves this with several concepts:
Home: Rather than a physical "Home" button, this allows immediate return to the main navigation screen with no loss of data entered into other applications.
"Now Active": This button enables rapid return to the contextually most important activity occurring at the present time. For example, if a call is active and the Pictures browser is open, it will navigate Qt Extended immediately to the active call.
Context menu: The remaining four buttons allow immediate movement to another area within the current context. For example, within a Media Player application, there are several views to show - Now Playing, Album view and so forth.
